My Self-Discipline

If someone were to come up to me and ask what I think self-discipline is, I would simply reply back the way I approach, organize, and plan my life in a positive manner. I do not believe that everyone has full self-discipline, and we lack at least a quality that we find difficult. For example, I can name five things that I lack in discipline.

1) Initiative -In college, I have a hard time finishing my homework on time. I procrastinate a lot and never find the need to complete my homework ahead of time to avoid deadlines.

2) Dependable - To be honest, anytime there is some kind of event or a hang out day with my friends, I'm always the one that tends to be late. I don't mean to, but I don't pay attention to the time thus being the late one is my troubled personality.

3) Decisions - Most of the time, I let others make the decisions and not put my voice out ever. In big projects or just a leadership event, I'm a follower and sometimes I wished I could say something that could maybe be better or improve any kind of situation. I'm just afraid.

4) Enthusiasm - In putting more excitement in my work or activities I do will make others and myself feel the adrenaline rush to make the best of any kind of assignment or project.

5) Endurance - With this quality, if I were to study for a test, I would stay up until I get finish and not let my mind wonder. I have trouble studying and concentrating with homework therefore making me miss the homework deadlines an make a bad grade on my exam.

The way I see it is that everyone is not perfect, the way we live life is to learn from mistakes and become a better person.

I will constantly renew myself by focusing on the four dimensions of my life:

  • Within becoming a Buddhist, I have rules I have to uphold myself to such as not to lie and be a mean human body. Having that spiritual connection leads me to a positive future.
  • "You can do anything, only if you set your mind to it". Important things come in big or small packages, but If I know I can do it but let it pass by it would be a shame.
  • When I can control my thoughts and emotions, my outcome will be the best.

OU's Mission!

Dear Chung,

College for you is a brand new experience and I'm frightened for you because of the independence that is exposed to you. I know you are excited of making your own decisions but be aware of trouble situations that WILL show up. Studying for you is something you really need to focus on and make time for no matter what (It's a necessity in college!). You are slacking because you aren't planning things! Focus but enjoy. You are half way through your first semester and you will have to stick it out! Go 110% okay?? As for all of the events and chit chatting time, that is your secondary priority. OU is supporting you all the way so don't think this school doesn't care...

OU has a mission statement that explains to us that they are here to mold us into the better person of us. They want us to change into a person that will impact the future in a positive term. They have the educational sources available to us for enrichment and advancement. They believe that having educational opportunities, updates in technology, student support, and continued support will lead us in the right direction in becoming a significant student.

I believe that you are living OU's mission statement and that because you are aware of the Mission Statement from the University of Oklahoma, you now need to apply it to everyday college life. Everyday you get this feeling that you have done something better for yourself or find that sometimes you have made a difference, thus the mission statement is being a success. For example, just today you felt yourself learn and apply my work. You went to tutoring at Project Threshold because of logarithms in your math class that you don't know much of. In your
Spanish class, you find yourself understanding the materials quicker. You also feel success when you get a smile back from someone out, simply as easy as opening a door.

In conclusion, your opinion about OU's mission is that there is nothing bad about it, but more positive attitude should be added.

Sincerely

Chung Nguyen

Who's Who?? Boomer Sooner!

Today I meet two lovely ladies, and they couldn't have been any more sweeter than they were. :)

In the class room, we were instructed to hold our finger up high and connect with another advisor/teacher/staff.

The first person I met, Susan Sasso, was direct with confidence, and she has a gorgeous smile! We only had a small conversation about her title at OU which is an Associate Vice President and an Associate Dean of Students Student Affairs, but she teaches me that the first impression from any person leaves an imprint of how I would approach/know her as in the future. Mrs. Sasso soon talked briefly about her family, and we had to switch partners, but I know that after meeting her, no one in the room is afraid to speak to me nor dislike me. Having comfortable vibes in a room is the best way to boost your confidence.

Secondly, I later met Kari. J. Dawkins. She is a Leadership Development and Volunteerism Student Affairs Assistant Director. Mrs. Dawkins is very kind hearted and is very pretty! With her, I learned about organizations at OU, and how each organization is connected to each other such as if you are involved with something in CAC, you can be introduced to another organization and get more recommendations or favors to build in leadership roles. Again, like Mrs. Sasso, we casually talked and there was never a moment where I had an awkward feeling. We ended up talking about TV shows and how her career ended form into being an Assistant Director.

Both beautiful ladies are very tentative and sincere. What I learned from the people I met this morning is that the people in the Student Affairs building is not there to intimidate you at all if you are scared to approach them. All they want to do is help all students, so make their resource a good tool and don't be afraid to ask any one of them question.

An advise i would absolutely give freshmen is to focus a lot on time management. I didn't make a success in that topic and I had to suffer with the consequences. OU is a big campus, but it gets more little and you will fall in love with without the hassle of being lost.

I hope that everything is going well and have a artistically beautiful Week!
